The perfect structure for your swimming pool

an overview of the various types of facilities available on the market

Today we want to talk about the most commonly used structures. When it comes to swimming pools, we always see the exterior, the finishes, the accessories and the lining, but the fundamental element on which everything rests is the structure.

This is the part that has the greatest impact on costs, the one that must withstand the elements for as long as possible, and it is therefore important to assess its characteristics carefully.

There are various construction systems, each with its own specific features and guarantees; it is necessary to assess not only those provided by the manufacturer, but also those of the product itself.
Here, then, is a brief overview of the most commonly used structures on the market.

‘RENOLIT ALKORPLAN PVC linings are the perfect solution for swimming pools of all shapes, designs and sizes!’

Concrete swimming pool

Go ahead and get creative! It is constructed entirely from reinforced concrete, with the base and walls all cast on site. It guarantees excellent structural integrity and allows for greater freedom in terms of shapes, dimensions and even finishes, but it must be executed with the utmost care. Its perfection depends heavily on the experience of the builder. The reinforced concrete structure allows for any shape to be created and accommodates all finishes; timescales and costs are generally higher than with other systems as it is built on-site, but the end result is guaranteed by the builder.

Glass or acrylic swimming pools

If you see your swimming pool as a true design statement, glass or acrylic are the materials for you! Bear in mind, however, that you should choose them with a clear understanding of the pros and cons. Indeed, incorporating transparent elements into the pool requires meticulous craftsmanship and particular attention to waterproofing, which must be flawless.

Piscina con pannelli in metallo

This type of prefabricated swimming pool is constructed by pouring a concrete base at the bottom of the pool, onto which metal panels of various types are fitted around the perimeter. Quick and easy to assemble, it provides a structure that is immediately ready to accommodate the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN lining. The panels are easy to transport and install; they are supported by press-formed metal struts that enable the structure to withstand the hydrostatic pressure of the water, aided by the surrounding ground. The panels offer excellent value for money, which varies depending on the type of metal used: galvanised sheet metal, aluminium alloy and stainless steel (the latter being highly resistant to corrosion). The warranties on the panels range from 10 to 30 years.

Swimming pool with polystyrene formwork

This structure is also referred to as ‘disposable formwork’.
It is constructed using hollow blocks of high-density polystyrene which, when placed on the concrete base slab, form the perimeter wall of the pool. Quick to install, once in position, they are reinforced with steel bars and subsequently filled with concrete, resulting in a structure similar to reinforced concrete. Expanded polystyrene (EPS), being an insulator, helps to maintain the water temperature for longer. The internal walls must be smoothed or protected with a soft underlay to allow for the installation of the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN lining.   The panel’s warranties (as it is a product that may deteriorate over time) should be checked with the supplier.

What about the price?

Prices that are too low compared to the average should raise some doubts; a high-quality product requires good raw materials, care and time in its construction and subsequent aftercare. It is not worth spending little only to end up with problems, left completely to fend for yourself.

The final lining

We hope this brief overview of the different systems will help you choose the right one for your swimming pool, but the most important thing is that the lining you choose is a product that is both aesthetically pleasing and flawless, guaranteed against water leaks, compliant with all current regulations, and backed by decades of experience; In short, the wide range of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN products will allow you to achieve the best possible aesthetic result and long-lasting durability.

We leave you with a beautiful quote from Paulo Coelho:
“It is precisely the possibility of realising a dream that makes life interesting”.
